To responsibly create wealth is Fjord’s raison d’être. We deploy skills and capital - highly selectively - to ensure superior returns and a positive social impact. We believe that what is good for the world - for its environment and for its people - also makes good business sense, if intelligently approached.

As private equity specialists with deep experience from growing and operating companies in developed and developing countries, we seek to invest where we can combine capital deployment with a high degree of value added by the Fjord team, to make a real difference in terms of operational and financial performance, and growth.

We will invest across a wide range of clean energy opportunities - from renewable energy and energy efficiency to key players in the clean energy value chain. To invest responsibly and grow such companies requires, however, to have open eyes to their benefits for society, but also to their potentially detrimental effects. Too much has been built like a wobbly house on stilts, with little regard for the social foundations. A hydro-electric plant, while good in terms of carbon abatement and economic development, may be socially destructive and seriously encroach upon fauna and flora.

We believe that only active cooperation between government, civil society, thought leaders and the general public can lead to solutions to the world’s most pressing issues. We work actively with all stakeholders to ensure that every one of our engagements strikes a carefully considered balance.

Our key role is to profitably grow clean energy companies for the benefit of the communities in which they operate. Attractive returns for our investors are thus a consequence of meticulous attention to this mission.
